Artistic Wonder.

Everyday, if you look close enough, you will find that inspiration is all around you. I live in the middle of the mountains, where Mother Nature does a wonderful job of creating thanks for our World’s natural beauty…but it also means that I have to dig deep and seek out hard core design inspiration. For this reason, I loooooove discovering new artistic gems that make me dance in my desk chair!

Ryden Rizzo (doesn’t the name say enough!?), owner and creative brain behind ‘Allied Maker’, creates beautifully hand crafted lamps and pendants, being mindful to incorporate care and quality into each piece – something, sadly, often lost in our consumer based society. I adore the simplicity of his classic, but contemporary design. I love the ease of the material. I love that each piece is hand made and shipped with care! I really think I just love this guy….and his lamps :) See more for yourself at his website, http://www.alliedmaker.com/collections/lighting

I have chosen to showcase the Bell Lamp…because it’s my new favourite – and I’m hoping to incorporate it in an upcoming project!! Love building new homes and filling them with character :)

Live, love…and keep lighting. The World is full of bright surprises!

Tuesday Inspiration.

A beautiful couple of weeks I’ve had surrounded by friends and family back home. It was quite fitting when a great friend introduced me to Ana Krus; a new source of inspiration and motivation to keep creating…and just being me! It’s always so refreshing and invigorating to see people actively doing what they love.

Based out of New York, Ana’s handcrafted lamps are incredibly detailed one of a kind lanterns. They sit perfectly atop vintage dressers and glow warmly over intimate dining tables. I am so intrigued by the skill and time that must go into each one…exactly what makes each one it’s very own entity.

I guess this is what it’s all about! Using our hands to create what our imagination sees.

An Authentic Love: Harpreet & Mandeep

When Mandeep & Harpreet approached me to decorate & coordinate their wedding…I’m not gonna lie, I was slightly terrified. The massive scale of their event meant the potential for everything to go wrong, and just thinking about it gave me unwanted waves of nausea! However, after meeting with the couple a number of times, I just couldn’t say no. Their laid back and easy going approach to the whole day (well, week long celebration!) put me at ease and gave me the confidence I needed to grant them their wedding wish; a soft & elegant setting for the best Indian dance party ever!!

We worked together to get every little detail just right; from the perfect floral combination, to the cozy cocktail area, and the flow of guests. We wanted the 330 family & friends to be awed by the intimate & warm surroundings of the Whistler Mountains…and we truly succeeded!! The smiles and laughter floating around the Whistler Sliding Centre on this sunny (but cold!) Saturday afternoon, was inspiring and uplifting.

The day didn’t come without it’s challenges…like handcrafting a floral chandelier & custom table runner for the head table on the morning of the event…or managing 17 staff to make sure we didn’t skip a beat…or last minute changes to the 42 table seating chart!! But…

After a 22 hour day on site, the best Indian food I have ever had, and a handful of new friends…I wish I could go back! It was one of my most gratifying moments as a lighting designer, entrepreneur, and lover of all things wedding. Seeing Harpreet & Mandeep walk through the doors as glowing newlyweds, knowing we had pulled it all off…is a moment I promise to never forget.

Still waiting to see the professional and amazing photo edits by Vancouver’s Life Studios, but in the mean time…here are a few iPhone goodies to make your mouth water! Thanks to  local Whistler florists at Senka for the gorgeous peonies & hydrangeas, and NextLevel Soundcrew for dropping the beats!

Out in Nature.

With lots of events on the go, I am feeling so inspired and excited by all of the outdoor garden party photographs I’ve been stumbling upon everywhere! Little havens created in outdoor nooks, embracing nature the way Mother Nature intended.

Twinkle lights shining through the trees while candles steadily drip hot wax onto lace table cloths. Romantic chandeliers hanging from the branches, and glowing paper lanterns that create mini constellations in the night sky. This is what garden parties are all about! Breathing in fresh air. Laughing the night away. Staring up into the sky being thankful for all that surrounds you.

Here are some beauties that lit up my creative senses and got me planning for all the upcoming weddings!!

Light, airy, colourful, playful, simple, and antique are my favourite design words of the season. What else is Springtime for, but crisp colours and brilliant textiles that tell old stories and hang quietly on the wall? See how the light fixtures below add simple elegance to the room without saying a word.

These spaces make me feel like Spring…and wherever they are in the World, I hope the birds are singing and the sun is shining warmly through the crack in the old stained glass window :)

In the garden..

It’s the time of year for flowers and spirits to blossom! As the sun shines brighter & hotter, patio sets emerge from the shed, plants gain new life, and days get longer. It’s the time of year we slowly move from inside to outside, and it’s my favourite transitional season :)

I’m just starting to make a plan for our little garden! With our wedding coming up, and about one million friends and family coming to visit, we want our patio to really rock this summer! In addition to patio furniture, beautiful plants, and a fruitful veggie garden…we want the lighting to create the ‘garden party’ atmosphere. Cozy, romantic, soft, picnic vibes will be emanating from the trees and shining down on backyard gatherings! I’ve been collecting ideas, and I’m really excited to create our own little garden oasis :)

Bring your space to life with some of these ideas! Have your own little secret garden you’d like to share? Send me pictures  :)

From Maja

Here are a few more (professional) photos from Maja and Dave’s Wedding! I love looking back…and getting excited for the next one! The twinkle lights and burlap back drop behind the head table were my two favourite parts! Rustic romance :)

Thanks for your kind words and sharing the memories with me Maja & Dave…also for the very last chocolate peanut butter cupcake that you hand delivered to my door days later :)

Thank you very much for all your insight and creativity during the reception planning process. I felt completely at ease knowing you would confidently transform a small and poorly lit room into cozy and warm atmosphere that was enjoyed by our guests the entire night.

Whistler Wedding!

This weekend I had the honour of being a part of an amazing wedding celebration! Maja and Dave are two true Whistler locals, who fully embrace everything our small town offers. Keeping in spirit with their love for nature, skiing, and casual beauty, we worked together to come up with the perfect mix of rustic West Coast chic for their wedding day…and the result was AMAZING!

Wooden rounds, string lights, burlap, twigs, mason jars, candles and paper lanterns were the name of this game! One of my favourite projects was creating the big burlap wall behind the head table. Adorned with lights and organza, this wall really pulled the focus of the room to right where it should be – on the happy bride & groom!

All of the photos I have taken so far were in daylight, because their dance party is just getting started! Can’t wait to see images of the romantic lighting – with more than 300 candles and 500 twinkle lights – and the astonishing upstairs lounge area!

What an amazing weekend bedazzling a wedding with lights and decor…I think I could get used to doing this all the time :)

Up early with a coffee and more new music to sadly tear everything down! This weekend really made me feel like I was living up to my “LIVE, LOVE, LIGHT” mantra…maybe it was the positivity and laid back nature of the bride and groom that made me sit back and enjoy the experience. Above all, I hope their day was perfectly full of love and light :)
